| At Dartmouth Begun in the 14th century overlooking the River Dart. The earliest surviving English coastal castle designed for artillery, another castle was built on the opposite bank and were for protection against French pirates. In the Civil War Royalists besieged and captured the castle for three years.In World War II a gunshelter was built for use against a German invasion. more information |
| At Okehampton One of the most extensive castle ruins in Devon. Added to in the 11th century & 14th century. In 1539 its owner Henry, Marquis of Exeter, was executed by Henry VIII, the property was seized by Crown and dismantled. Many of the buildings are in a good state of preservation. more information |
